Harvard Law School hosts Hip-Hop Panel
Harvard Law School Reaches Out to At Risk Youth 'Sacrificing a Good Time Now for a Great Time Later'

CAMBRIDGE, MA, 3/1/10-- Due to the success of last year's music panel 'The Bizness behind The Business' Harvard Law School's Black Law Student Association and the Hip Hop Entertainment Law Project will again host a music industry panel as part of this year's 27thAnnual BLSA Spring Conference. The seminar is for high-risk teens, and anyone interested in having a career in the music business. The event will take place will take place on March 6, 2010 at 4:30pm in Ames Courtroom at Harvard Law School in Austin Hall.

Panelists will discuss the importance of making good decisions to ensure success in the future as well as the various career opportunities in the music business. This year's seminar title, "Sacrificing a Good Time Now for a Great Time Later", is based on a speech given by rapper T.I. to at risk youth in 2009. This year's panelists are:

  • Leonard "LB" Brooks, SVP of Urban A&R Capitol Records;
  • Jerry Clark, Music Industry Veteran and Founder of the Jerry Clark Foundation;
  • KJ Holiday, Director of Urban Programming Clear Channel Communications;
  • Al Zara, Director of IT Clear Channel Communications;
  • A Surprise Celebrity Panelist!

The event is part of HBLSA's 27th Annual Spring Conference titled, "Me, You, We: Pursuing Progress in Black America" taking place March 5, 2010-March 6, 2010. The HLS BLSA chapter is the largest BLSA Chapter in the nation. It exists for the support, guidance and direction of Black students in academic, professional and social endeavors. HHELP was created to motivate at risk youth to do well in school using the music industry, and help them pursue careers in the music industry.

From Boston to Hollywood on "Idol"
Music Business/Management Students/Alumni to appear on American Idol

MBM students and alumni, Ashley Rodriguez, Jessica Wolfe, Jennifer Hirsh, and former MEISA President, Bosa Mora auditioned for American Idol last summer and were voted to go to Hollywood for the next round of competition. Visit the American Idol web site to view photos and video of the Boston auditions and keep an eye out for them this season on American Idol!
 
Suffolk University named among top 15 U.S. graduate programs
The Princeton Review recently named Suffolk University among the top 15 U.S. graduate programs in global management for 2009.

The Suffolk Global MBA is:
          
*  A specialized MBA degree in global business
*  An intensive concentration in either international finance or international marketing
*  A one-week Global Travel Seminar to experience business first-hand in Brazil. China, England, Germany, or India
*  A three-month full-time summer internship outside your home country for full-time students
*  A consulting project in the part-time program that includes one of the following:
       1. A global research project at your company
       2. A two-week intensive visit to a company outside the US for a consulting project that will then be completed upon your return
       3.  A three-month full-time summer internship outside your home country

Students who successfully complete the Music Business/Management program and earn a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music may apply for acceptance to the Suffolk Accelerated MBA program.

NARM Connects Sessions and Student Membership Discount
The National Association of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) is proud to announce NARM Connects: Salons, which consists of a series of exclusive, geographically-targeted, in-person get-togethers that will offer compelling speakers and panel discussions plus sponsored presentations and a mixer. These late afternoon/early evening events are designed to attract a variety of professionals from within NARM member companies, especially those involved in business development; product management; and digital sales and marketing.
